i think i may have just precipitated my exit from the watchtower a little sooner than i expected.

i was really looking forward to attending easter services at a local church today, and so made arrangements to ride with a friend of mine and his wife.

my friend is a recently disfellowshiped former fellow elder.

Hang in there for your wife and especially your kids.

I know haow you feel. I gave up long ago making excuses for my religious beliefs long ago. We DO LIVE IN A FREE COUNTRY. I attend a Catholic service with my wife and family; not so much because I believe it but for family unity. The influence on my children is very minimal compared to any JW influence they might have had. If you are searching for a faith, good luck to you.

IF it is a hot topic for your wife; wait a while to discuss it. Forget your inlaws; you do not owe them ANY explanations. If they push the subject; simply tell them ; politely and diplomatically for your kids sake ( this is their grandparents, and despite how you may feel, I am sure the kids are crazy about them) that you will not have this discussion with them. END OF CONVERSATION.

T-REX DNA

We had an Easter egg hunt in my house this morning too. My 5 year old is so caught up in it...it was fun. The bunny stopped by during the nite and brought easter baskets filled with goodies for everyone.

today is easter sunday and i attended a family mass with my wife and kids at the local catholic church which we are members of.

it was "standing room only".

the entire service was not more than 30 minutes.. routine for us; except for today i actually listened to what the priest had to say.

Routine for us; except for today I actually listened to what the Priest had to say. Despit the fact that the priest looked and sounded like Herman Munster; his message was the origin of Easter.

I was very surprised at how he told the history of the original Easter celebration being celebrated by Pagans; and how the Christian church adopted it to allow the masses their celebrations. He said that it was no different today.

All Catholics attending the mass; except for me; really did not care what the origin of this holiday was. It is all a tradition; I am beginning to believe it is more of a CULTURAL tradition rather than a RELIGIOUS one.

Any comments?

PS. of course, back at my house there was a traditional Easter brunch; the bunny did come with presents for all of my kids ( even the older ones, and the dog and cat) and we had our annual Easter Egg Hunt.

I must say; it was fun.

Michael Jackson at Memorial

i just received an email that said mj attended the memorial in solvang last night.

he attended with his mom and dad and also his son.

this info was forwarded to me via 2 others but i saw the original email so i think it's probably true.

I doubt this is true.....the media would have been all over him . I am sure they are camped out all around his ranch and DO NOT miss a coming or a going....

i took evelyne a copy of everyones wonderful thoughts... she cried more than once.

so, she saw the specialist just after lunch time.

it looks like, after 3 liters of iv, she has gone from 4.7 to 14!

If JWs Are A Cult, I Believe Roman Catholicism Is Too

i believe that jehovah's witnesses are a "cult".

to be a "good roman catholic" you have to be "cultic", that's for sure!

their beliefs and practices, rites and ceremonies are simply weird!

Interesting observation, Min

as we all know, Catholicism has had its share of murder and mayhem. The history of THAT Church reads like an ABC movie of the week soap opera.

But from my vantage from sharing in both of these religions ( JW and Catholicism); I can say that Catholicism is ; today a different religion than it was 500 years ago ( or even 40 years ago) and light years different from our old JW alma mater.

Just for a brief starter:

1) The Catholic Church runs Catholic Charities; not for profit and distributes food and supplies to ANYONE; irregardless of religion. This is an international charity.

2) The Catholics do not routinely come after you and "excommunicate" ( contrary to popular belief).

3) The local Catholic Church I attend with my family is more of a "social" gathering. No one kneels; crosses themselves, or believes that the Pope is infallible. And they openly discuss and are free to disagree with the Vatican. Heck, the Priest also speaks his mind. But in their hearts they have a faith in their religion. Despite the bad press with the Pedophile issues ( which they all condemn the church for not taking a harder stand against their priests), they are Catholics.

4) The Catholic faith promotes secular education. The Jesuit Order of priests have some of the best secular education that the American Culture has to offer. Fairfield University in Fairfield Connecticut is one clear example.

I could go on and on....no excuses though, the history of the Catholic church is ugly; but the contemporary church, in my experiece and opinion is bearable. I do not believe any of its teachings and tolerate it simply because my wife was raised and still is Catholic.
